Hi Clay – I think a lot of us in the IMU and other forums are getting the constant advice to “own your own URL!” A BIG exclamation mark always follows that point, but usually not a lot of “why.” But your post gets to the heart of the issue, and breaks down the hazards with concise, easy-to-follow logic.

    Cheers,
    Alyce

    Clay,

So, what is it then? Do I ought to ask for a premium account at WordPress (for example)? Let’s say I want to start a company’s blog, how do I go about it? I do not think $20 per year is much to spend for a professional Blog if you are a business, actually it is kind of a ridiculous price. If I go with WordPress, do I get to choose my domain name (like clayposey.com)?

    Thanks for the info!

  • Great points Clay. Numbers 2,3 really jumped out at me. There are many reasonable and inexpensive options (under $10 per month) where people can start a self hosted blog. They can choose to keep things relatively simple in the beginning. As time progresses, they will also have the flexibility and the option to let their blog evolve without any of the above mentioned restrictions. Very thoughtful list Clay.

  • Awesome post Clay . Very informative and so true.
    Keep em coming :)
